US House Budget Vote Response

On February 25th, the US House of Representatives voted mostly along party lines to move its budget proposal package forward, which includes deep cuts to Medicaid and safety net programs. The next step in this process is called “reconciliation”, when Congress Committees debate the specifics of what will be cut to achieve the proposed budget.

Colorado is not done telling our Congressional representatives why Medicaid matters to individuals and families in our state. Click here if you need to find your Congressional District to take the actions listed below.

Our friends at Colorado Cross Disability Coalition are making it easy for people to respond:

Representatives Boebert (4), Crank (5), Evans (8), and Hurd (3) all voted ‘yes’ to start the process of cuts. If you live in Districts 3, 4, 5, or 8:

    • Click here to express your disappointment with your Representative for voting for the cuts last night (or send your own email)

    • Tell them your story and why you want them to vote ‘no’ during the next step of the process.

Representatives Crow (6), DeGette (1), Neguse (2), and Pettersen (7) all voted ‘no’ against the cuts. If you live in Districts 1, 2, 6, or 7:

    • Click here to thank your Representative for voting against the cuts (or send your own email)

    • Encourage them to continue to support Medicaid and let them know that it matters.

Cuts in Medicaid are especially devastating to people with disabilities, low income children, pregnant people and rural Coloradans. Our state’s TABOR law will not allow us to raise the state revenue needed to sustain federal cuts at this level. In a tough state budget year and a difficult federal funding environment, Colorado stands to lose many of the protections and services we have fought for and won over the years.

Please continue to keep reaching out to share your story. People with disabilities belong in conversations where decisions are being made. This is NOT over.
